Special Olympics

Allegany County Special Olympics is a sports organization for children (age 8+) and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to over 70 athletes in Allegany County, NY. The ‘Green Machine’ teams, as they have been dubbed, currently compete in basketball, bocce, bowling, and softball and participate in local, regional and state competitions.

Allegany County Special Olympics is a free program, practices are held weekly in Wellsville, NY and athletes do not have to be served by Allegany Arc to participate; athletes only need to have a diagnosed disability.

Allegany County Special Olympics Coaches and Volunteers are always needed and welcome. No specific sport skill is required to be eligible to coach or volunteer, just a good attitude and a willingness to guide, instruct and encourage athletes to achieve their goals. Reinforcement of sportsmanship, teamwork, team spirit and self-confidence are also encouraged.

If you are interested in participating on a Green Machine team, volunteering or coaching, please contact Stephanie Presutti-Kubiak, Allegany County Special Olympics Coordinator, at (585) 808-4379 or stephanie.kubiak@alleganyarc.org.
